How to look breath taking on your wedding day.

As a woman I can completely understand the anxieties, fears and excitement a bride feels. I love sharing my knowledge and expertise focusing on preserving, protecting and nourishing your skin.

Looking fabulous on the day

As a bride, your primary focus tends to be on looking and feeling like a princess on your special day. The key to a stunning bridal look is flawless skin enhanced with colours to suit your skin tone. The better your skin is, the more amazing your wedding make up will look. The added bonus to having beautiful skin is that you will still look fabulous once the make up is off especially while on honeymoon.

So how long will it take

Proper skin care takes several weeks even months to pay dividends. But the effort put in will have an enormous effect on the result boosting your confidence and the way you feel. It is a good idea to get a professional skin analysis done. A skin care range suitable for your skin type would be most beneficial.

Creams alone aren’t enough

While we continue to slather on creams on our faces, there is growing evidence the path to having a gorgeous skin might be through your tummy. Your skin clearly reflects your inner environment. By following a cleansing program that includes anti inflammatory or low stress foods would aid the removal of excess toxins and help improve the condition of your skin. It’s all about shining on your big day.

But what about those scars

Don’t we all dream of flawless skin all over. There are professional products which will do just that. Camouflaging scars, spider veins, burn marks etc has become increasingly popular. These products are designed not to rub off or transfer and last for up to three days!

Feeling shattered already

You always look how you feel. However we all know by the wedding day everyone is exhausted from the previous three days of ceremonies and parties, the bride is not an exception.  Indian weddings are hectic and our face often is the first to betray how tired we are.

You and close family members would look and feel magically revived and revitalised by squeezing in an aromatherapy massage before grooming. If you feel good, you would look great!

The ever evolving fashion

Fashion  is constantly evolving and with every change, bridal hair and makeup becomes more exquisite. Having realised that there is a massive demand for experts in this field, I enrolled myself in the beauty industry’s leading company, Ash Kumar Academy.

Ash Kumar’s elite talent  and innovative henna designs has lead him to having the privilege of working on numerous Bollywood and Hollywood superstars like Madonna, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, Aishwariya Rai, Kareena Kapoor and the list goes on. His work has been featured in blockbusters such as Kabhi Khushi Khabi Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum to name a few.

Be yourself and have fun

On this special day you deserve to be pampered with a keen sense of style and a vision of perfection. It is important that you still look like yourself-just the most beautiful you have ever looked. You will need assistance to your dream look, limited only by your imagination. Having at hand a professional package consisting of high quality therapies that are fun, creative and innovative takes the stress away from grooming on the big day. Remember, all dreams appear impossible until someone makes them happen.

To keep a lid on stress, try to exercise, yoga, meditate and deep breathing. Prescribe yourself a daily dose of something that makes you laugh!

Last but not the least, don’t forget to enjoy and treasure those special moments. At the end of the day, it is your wedding and your memories.

As the saying goes ‘ A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’, so do something today that will take you one step closer to your dream!

Cosmetic companies make billions of dollars from women’s fear of ageing skin, with new anti ageing products and topical ‘miracle’ products launched every year. As aresult the general public is getting more and more confused as to what product is
suitable for them.

All skin is made up of the same constituent layers, yet every skin is unique in its own way. Hence recommending the appropriate skin care products and regime must be individualised to suit each person for optimum results.

People are born with their skin type, which is determined by their genetics and ethnicity. Like everything else, skin texture and appearance can change over time. An individual’s skin type is based primarily on how much oil is produced in the follicles.

Generally, as you age your skin becomes drier after time. Changes in the skin begin as women enter peri menopause in their forties and they continue into menopause in their fifties and beyond due to the decrease in estrogen.

All skin tissue begins to thin causing the reduction in collagen and elastin which are the connective tissues in our skin. There are two simple things that should be the backbone of your skin care ritual – First must be 90% Protection and purification. The second is a mixture of creams, lotions, elixirs, and masks etc which are fun and can offer real benefits especially when added to a sound fundamental skin programme.

Beautiful, supple and clear skin rarely happens naturally as we age. It is more often the result of a reasonable amount of care and attention that is given throughout the passing years.

You may not realise but the use of incorrect products can actually make your skin worse. It is even possible that your skin type has been changed or recreated by the incorrect products you may be using for example heavy wrinkle creams can clog pores and cause blemishes, alcohol based toners can irritate skin resulting in combination skin and so forth.

In our very commercial world we are lead to believe that products that promote lightening skin and depigmenting skin discolorations caused by sun exposure is beneficial when in fact they can be extremely damaging. Furthermore, to convince consumers that the products are different and natural, lots of plant extracts are thrown into the mix, ranging from mulberry extract to kojic acid. Adding plant material to cosmetics just increases the need for it to have a stronger preservative base and more fragrance to mask the smell of rancid, moulding ingredients.

While these ingredients have some research showing them to be effective, a number of extracts have minimal effect. It also turns out that those plant extracts are highly unstable and have little to no efficacy when mixed into skin care products! The amount of money you spend on skin care has nothing to do with how your skin looks. However, using the correct products for your skin type does. Skin types include dry, normal, combination, oily or sensitive.

Choosing a fantastic skin care routine means doing what it takes to be good to your skin without having to waste money, and buying only products that live up to their claims. While I want to emphasize the misleading portrayals of skin care products made by the cosmetic industry, I also wanted to let you know that great products do exist!

All products are formulated for different skin types and conditions. A product for dry skin contains ingredients to nourish dry skin. A product for oily skin is designed to treat the oiliness. Soaps are not usually recommended, as they can leave a film on the skin and can be quite alkaline, causing dryness and other issues.

No matter what the skin type, using the correct ingredients and following the proper steps in a home care routine are essential for healthy skin. Since every face is unique, finding the right care for each person can be challenging. Before selecting products, your skin type and conditions must be analysed correctly by a professional beauty therapist. Beauty therapists provide preventive care for the skin and offer treatment to keep the skin healthy and attractive.

The skin type is evaluated and assessed by a skin analysis including a thorough skin scanning procedure and an extensive consultation. This procedure reveals the condition of the deeper layers of the skin. Then by sharing her knowledge and expertise she educates her clients on understanding their skin and preparing a treatment plan along with a home care program. This significantly helps make a difference in skin health and dramatically transforms the appearance.

Professional products sold only by licensed professionals like beauty therapist are generally better formulated for individuals needs. While professional products may cost more initially, they are usually more effective due to their high concentration of performance ingredients, meaning less product is needed. By choosing the correct product, you could see better results in home care alone.

A good way to determine product cost is to break down the cost into daily or weekly amounts. This gives you a better idea of how affordable the product is and you will be surprised to find that it usually cost no more than a cup of coffee a day!

If you are like most of us, whatever you are now doing for your skin is a combination of habit, negligence and occasional blast of zeal. I am proposing that you rethink your face care routine and start over from scratch. Although it’s not possible to stop the clock from ticking and halt the ageing process, there are hundreds of little yet effective things we can suggest you do to prevent further damage and reverse the external signs of ageing.

The great news is that beneath all the marketing hype there has been an authentic leap forward in our understanding that skin really can look better than ever. Irrelevant of age. Ageing skin is biological not chronological. The process can be delayed or even reversed with a holistic approach.

The best way to honour the skin you were born in is by taking the best possible care of yourself. You won’t be able to change everything dramatically and instantly. Proper skin care takes several weeks even months to pay dividends. But the effort that is put in will have an enormous effect on the results boosting your confidence and the way you feel.

True beauty is the outward embodiment of inner harmony and grace of spirit. The challenge lies in achieving this delicate state of balance in a high stress lifestyle.

1So what’s happened, you cannot squeeze into your favourite pair of jeans. You just about managed to do up the hooks for your sexy sari blouse but then realised you can barely breathe. An experience sounding a bit too familiar! Well I assure you, you are not the only one.

There are millions of women around the world who are desperately having an uphill struggle to tone jiggly thighs and sagging butts. It’s about time we stop blaming our dryer for shrinking our perfectly fitted outfits and do something about it for once and for all!

It’s no rocket science -fad diets are not God sent and certainly don’t work miracles contrary to claims made by marketing gurus. Frankly, in order for any weight loss program to be successful, it needs to be customised to the individual in consideration with their lifestyle, age, health and fitness status and of course time allowance!

I would love to share my favourite few tips:

1) Keep a food diary with quantity
Yes I know, but its an effective way of knowing why you can’t shed those extra kilos, regardless of your low fat diet.

2) Be a smart shopper
Obviously what you doing at the moment is not working so choose food wisely. Filling up the trolley with cakes, pastries and ice cream never really help. If you buy it then you’ll eat it!

3) Choose healthy fats
Swap bad fats with healthy ones like nuts, seeds, olive oil, oily fish etc There is no need to obsess over every gram of fat…it will only leave you frustrated.

4)Its thirst not hunger
Often people end up tucking in calorie rich nibbles when in reality the body is craving water!

5) Stop eating when you are satisfied
You’ll feel full eating ten whole cucumbers but you certainly won’t be satisfied. It’s wiser to satisfy hunger with a variety of flavours, colours and textures.

6)Never skip meals
Skipping breakfast in particular is a major deterrent to losing weight. Moreover, it deprives the body off adequate essential nutrients.

7) Be realistic – Deprivation never works If you deny yourself treats, you are more inclined to give up all together. An occasional portion of your favourite dessert is not a criminal act! Just beware of the portion size though!

8) Enjoy the flavours
It’s not a boot camp. Having food solely for its nutritional value is not enough. Enjoy the flavours and textures of the food, its more gratifying.

9)Size does matter
The larger the portion, the larger the calorie content!

10) A healthy diet
It’s vital to have a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables to support you in your mission!

Most importantly, it’s crucial to have a positive attitude toward your body. To actually love it and not curse it… The great news is that you could turn things around! With a bit of determination and vigilance, I truly believe anyone and everyone is capable of achieving astounding results!

Women often tend to have more responsibilities and less time or money to spend on their own needs.though most of us now do a paid job as well as as running a home, we still do almost all the house chores and child minding. Women are brought up to care about everyone else and when times at a premium, looking after themselves is the easiest task to drop.

Feeling stressed doesn’t mean you’re a neurotic. It’s a perfectly natural response to events that threaten our safety. A the first sign of danger, our whole metabolism switches onto a war footing. We stop digesting food or making internal repairs. Our bodies are flooded with adrenaline and other emergency hormones to rush oxygen around the body and release quick energy fuel into the bloodstream.

These days we tend to have long term issues. We want some control over our lives, but things are changing all around us and many times we are swept along with the tide. We feel responsible for everyone’s well being but powerless to make everything alright, every time. A perfect recipe for stress!

Being organised is the best way of making extra time in your life and cutting down stress. Admittedly, anyone with children, a home and a job may feel she in doing all the organising humanly possible. Yet there’s frequently room to make things easier for ourselves.

My five golden rules are:

  1. if it needs to be done, do it today and do it now!
  2. be prepared
  3. work at your own pace
  4. don’t aim for perfection
  5. prioritise what’s most important

We’ve all got favourite ways of relaxing but some are more effective than others and some aren’t really relaxing at all.let’s be honest, flopping in front of the telly can be just the job after a day spent running after kids, cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping!

Anyone who has felt jumpy after having too many coffees or struggled to solve simple puzzles after missing brekky, knows that food affects our state of mind as well as our physical health. Missing a meal, makes blood sugar levels fall so low that the brain struggles to function efficiently, making one irritable.

Modern processed foods are unhealthily crammed pack with sugar, salt, saturated fats, refined carbohydrates and artificial additives. These types of food are low in nutrition  and can deplete our supplies of vital vitamins and minerals.

Inadequate carbohydrate intake can result in poor energy levels and fatigue. Wholemeal pasta, brown rice, whole meal bread, fresh fruits and potatoes are good source of carbohydrate energy.

A heavy meal leaves you feeling sleepy, while a high protein supper can keep you awake. Rich foods can make you lethargic while caffeine gives you jitters. Too much sugar or salt may disrupt the body’s chemical and mineral balance, a causing mood swings among other harmful effects. Eating well is crucial especially under stressful conditions. Stress wears down the immune system, which explains why we fall ill at difficult times. Super stress buster foods include bananas, oats, Brazil nuts, lettuce, leafy green vegetables, mackerel and chillies.

Take a short break while you eat, even if its only 10minutes, making time to chew your food properly and to actually enjoy the flavours. Eating in a rush can trigger the release of stress hormones as well as causing indigestion.

Relaxation isn’t yet another task to fit into an already crowded day. It’s about finding ways you enjoy that work for you. Relaxation is a powerful medicine. It speeds recovery from all kinds of illnesses and better still can help prevent them in the first place. It magically fades away pain from tensed muscles ,relieves stress, targets indigestion and heart disorders.

It’s hard to relax when you’re in pain. Pain and tension fuel each other in a vicious cycle of distress. Relaxation is especially vital in conditions like backache when muscles go into spasm around the painful spot.

Imagine the pain as something you can see a rock, a blob of colour. Fix your attention on it. The size, smell, shape, sound, movement. By facing the pain you will be able to lose the fear that makes our muscles knot up.

Eat to beat the blues

Changing  your diet could solve premenstrual problems (PMS). Unfortunately , chocolate only cheers you up till you step on the scales. Modern convenient food cause s a lot of hormonal havoc. These types of food are high in saturated fats which causes the body to produce too much oestrogen.

For all forms of PMS, stock up on vitamin B6 and magnesium. If your symptoms tend to be nervous tension, mood swings and anxiety, these may be all you need. Vitamin B6 is found in fish, liver, bacon, beans, tomato purée and bananas.

Weight gain, bloating and tender breasts could benefit from vitamin E from olive oil, nuts, salmon, tuna, blackberries, spinach and avocado.

Headaches, exhaustion, dizziness and craving for sweets, introduce more eggs, capsicum, rye bread and potatoes in your diet.

Depression, confusion and insomnia include vitamin C in your meals. Black currants, strawberries, parsley, red cabbage and oranges contain high quantities of vitamin C.

Menopause has been seen as a dreary time of health issues and emotional roller coaster. Not all changes are necessarily welcome, however there is no reason to be afraid of growing older if you keep a positive outlook. This could be the most energetic times of a woman’s life.

To keep depression and weight gain at bay, take up some energetic exercise at least three times a week.this helps reduce your risk of one of the major bone disease (osteoporosis). Stress and irritability can be managed by relaxing in a quite spot or taking a walk in fresh air.

Japanese women who rarely suffer menopausal symptoms eat masses of vegetables and soya products such as tofu. Cutting down on animal fats, coffee, fizzy drinks, sugar and alcohol is also beneficial.

Making time to catch up with friends who have melted away over the years is always a great pick me up. Promise yourself at least one thing a week that’s nothing but fun!

Everyone needs time to relax and recover from the stresses of the day. So don’t feel bad about spending time on yourself. Ask yourself if anything you’re doing will seem like a waste of time when you look back on it in a year. And above all, don’t feel

How many of us make the same old New Years resolution each year and casually give up by 31st January? A staggering 80 percent of us give up on our resolutions by the end of year or even by Easter in some cases! So why even bother despite the fact that we persistently fail?

I believe new years resolutions give us an opportunity to reflect on the previous year, the highs and the lows. It also is an ideal time to set goals on what we hope to achieve in the new year. To adapt to a more stable psychological state of achievement in what ever aspect of ones life.

It really make me wonder, despite the eager and the motivation, what really causes the struggle to persevere? What truly is stopping us from turning our dreams into action and reality? Its about time we retire our mentality to resisting, to blaming other factors for our down falls.

Cause for failure could be one or more of the following:

1) Unrealistic goals
Be true to your self. You know your strengths and weakness, so set goals accordingly or else it’s only a matter of time you’ll break down and give up (yet again!)

2) Lack of planning
It’s a real life and not a text book….things do crop up which will cause hinderance. Plan on how to overcome or minimise their effects.

3) Getting out of your comfort zone
We have a set way of living in our own comfort…..most if not all ambitions require getting out of our comfort zone. Needless to say its excruciatingly painful to break your comfy routine initially. Your strength lies in getting over the first huddle and persevering through to the following.

4) Lack of motivation and commitment
I reckon a big enough ‘why’ you want to change is the greatest motivation. If your goal isn’t important to you, naturally you’ll be reluctant to take any steps towards it. If you lack the passion in your endeavour inevitably you’ll lack commitment …it’s a no brainer!

Go out there and nail it this year! My favourite tips:

1)Set yourself realistic goals that you know for sure that you’d follow. Out of your comfort zone yet achievable. To utilise your strengths and realise your weaknesses. Use them as guidance and sign posts to unlocking the secret to living your dreams.

2) Be specific and break it down into small chunks. It’s all well and good saying you’d lose 10kg but if you haven’t a plan on how exactly you’d get started on it, you’d be going no where with it. Design yourself an achievable step by step plan and most of all….stick by it! Try not to give up just because you’ve had a couple of slip ups….slip ups do happens, lets be real.

3) What are you willing to give up to live your dreams? What is it going to cost you in terms of time and finance? How would you feel at the age of say 90 when you wake up to the fact, that you didn’t live your dream life, something you could have achieved when you had the energy and stamina? Remember, tomorrow never comes…so do it today and do it now! If it takes getting up half an hour earlier for a jog or swapping a chocolate bar for a fruit snack….Just get started

4) Display inspiring quotes, images and portraits where you can see them daily. These will act as reminders and give you that motivational boost.

5) A positive approach towards your dream as supposed to a forced upon task will be more fruitful. It has a huge impact to see your change as a gain and not losing out on say an hours worth of TV viewing. Try and see the bigger picture.

6) Note your progress and downfall in a pocket notebook or your phone. Perhaps a visual chart form is great for weight loss. Study the pattern in areas of down fall. For example dinner out with friends. If you’re big on desserts, go for it! Perhaps skip an entree or go for a smaller portion or a low cal option.

7) Don’t forget to reward yourself! Very single step you take acts as a stepping stone. Research show that people have a reported to be more satisfied and gratified when they’ve spent money on experiences than material products. Reward yourself with an aromatherapy massage, a relaxing facial, a trip to the cinema or a getaway! We have the personal strength and resilience to control what happens in our life rather than getting swept away by the currents of what society and circumstances throw at us. I strongly believe our future is in fact in our own capable hand. . I personally find it rather exhilarating to see a new self being shaped that outlines a brand new structure of a new exciting lifestyle…..!
